There was nothing for the Scarlet Pumpernickel to do, but blow his brains out. Which, he did.

On Wednesday, Ms. Perino used her regular briefing to announce on camera that Mr. Bush would speak to the [GOP] convention on Monday, Sept. 1

!

They can't do this to me!

(for those of you who don't know, Sept. 1 is my birthday)

I know I've run this image (or one very like it) of Eva Amurri making my favorite color glad to be alive before...

But damn, Susan Sarandon's baby got curves!

How long has it been since I've mentioned that Mandy Moore is clearly sexually obsessed with me?

Well I'll be damned.

This is the coolest thing you ever saw.

Ho-ly crap.

Actress Anne Hathaway's private diaries have been confiscated by the FBI as part of their ongoing investigation into 12 counts of wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering charged against her ex-boyfriend, Raffaello Follieri, the New York Daily News reported Thursday.

Personal photos of the couple along with other documents and items including a Tiffany clock and an antique bible were also taken by the FBI, according to the paper.

How mortifying. Assuming all the allegations against Mr. Follieri are true--and assuming as well that Miss Hathaway is innocent--which, you know, she is, because she is pure; decent and good-

Ahem. Excuse me. Assuming those assertions are true...then I'm really starting to want to kick Follieri's ass. I think the fellas here will back me up: There is nothing so infuriating as a man who treats a good woman poorly.

In the immortal words of Nu Shooz...

You have got to be ratfucking kidding me

If George Carlin had believed in an afterlife, I would say he is looking down and laughing right now. But he didn't. So I'll just say things like this make me think of Carlin, and as long as we think of him, he's never really gone.

John McCain really needs to stop reminding us how senior a citizen he is

He just isn't very up on those Internets we've heard so much about. First, early this month, no doubt with a song in his heart, McCain said,
I hate the bloggers’
He didn't even qualify it by saying "left-wing" bloggers.

And then, today, McCain accuses Obama of "flip-flopping" on the Holocaust.

(showing he's never heard of a little something I like to call Godwin's Law. It's not just for Usenet anymore.)

But say...you don't suppose this rather bald-faced attempt to decrease Obama's support among Jews has anything to do with recent figures showing Jews support Obama more than Lieberman? Nah, couldn't be.

I agree!

there’s something about putting those two characters out there dancing in space

Brief, fun interview here with Ben Burtt.

Burtt, as most of you know (good filmgeeks that you are) was the sound designer/editor for most of George Lucas' films, the Indiana Jones movies, & Dark Crystal, among many others. He was also picture editor on Star Wars episodes one-three.

Interview samples follow.

Q. And the story about your wife?
Ben Burtt: That was on Invasion of the Bodysnatchers, a long time ago. We went to listen to a sonogram of the child, my daughter Alice, who’s now grown up and has her own child. It was this great, throbbing sound, and at that time I was looking for the sound of an alien pod germinating and it sounded exactly like the alien pod germinating, so I thought why not?

Most recently, and more to the point of this interview, Burtt acted as sound and character voice designer for Wall-E...and as the voice of Wall-E himself.

Q. What’s your favourite moment from the film?
Ben Burtt: I really love the scene where they’re out in space together with the fire extinguisher, I think it’s the lyrical nature of that, the calm in the middle of the storm.

I should've found this on July Fourth, but Sarah Michelle Gellar is almost always awesome to look at

He said, "Look at it this way. No matter how you do in your events, you can't possibly blow it worse than I..."
