Oh yeah

PJ reminded me that it' s about time for my semi-annual "tell me who you are" post, which goes a little something like this...

I'd just like to know a little bit about who you are and where you came from. Or what you like or not about the blog.

So if you wouldn't mind, tap on the comments line down there to the right and introduce yourself. Tell me anything and everything you want me to know, or you think I might like to know about you.

A few suggested questions to answer follow. Use as many or none of them as you like. BTW, this is strictly for my own curiosity, I'm not conducting a demographic survey or anything.

  • When and how did you find my blog?
  • When you're not reading this blog, what are you trying to do with your life?
  • And how's that going for you?
  • Where did you grow up, and where do you live now?
  • Children?
  • Pets?
  • Have you noticed that this blog has grown increasingly cynical about religion of late? I ask because I have, and I'm not sure why it is.
  • You think I hold a grudge too long?
  • You think I post too many pictures of women who are nude, nearly so, or wearing tight-fitting clothes?
  • Do you really give a damn what I think about some new sitcom, or what I've been reading lately?
  • Do I post too many 1980's electro videos?

I hit "next blog" and found you sometime two years ago (yes, TWO...amazing).

Funny you should ask, but I was just at a screenwriting seminar at the university today...not sure screenwriting is quite where I will want to go with my degree, but it was great to hear from a professional screenwriter/producer about the Canadian and Hollywood industries. I have hope.

No children, no pets, and yes, I have noticed a change in your blog recently. I wouldn't say it's strictly cynicism about religion (I think you've always had a healthy dose of that here), but more likely that your words here are becoming more personal and a little less about external pop culture, politics and stuff like that.

No, I don't think you post too many pictures of women, nor do I think there can be too many posts about 80s electronic music. :) Although, to be honest, since I don't watch much TV, and certainly no sitcoms, those posts are routinely forgettable for me...but that's just me. Others will likely find them fascinating.

How's that for a novel?

I found your blog a few months ago, while looking for a picture of Liza Weil to use for an icon for a friend. It was probably right at the beginning of July of this year. I never did make that icon, but I did gain something to do while on the computer.
When not reading your blog, I'm usually reading other things- other blogs, newspapers, books, so on. When I'm trying to do something with my life that's more productive than learning about the lives of others, I'm being in high school, hoping to eventually become a history teacher.
Which is going alright. I mean, obviously, I've got some time left, but I'll make it.
Oh, you'll like this one, I'm sure. I grew up, and am still living in Kingsport, Tennessee. And every time I see you post something about the state in which I live, I always dread reading it. I immediately feel the urge to scream, "No, no! I swear. We're not all like that."
But then I realize that, yes, way too many residents of this state are exactly like the people you write about.
I don't have any children, but I do have a cat. His name is Toast, because I got him when I was eight, and that's the first thing I thought of when I saw him- he's the color of cinnamon toast.
I haven't noticed anything becoming more cynical about religion. However, I am very wary of organized religion in general, so maybe it's only because I'm desensitized to it.
It's possible. I don't know how long is too long to hold a grudge. I suppose it depends on the case. And grudges are not things that people usually let go of in an instant. "Oh! I think my time's run out on this one. I guess I like you again."
Is this a trick question? Can there be too many pictures of women on a single web page? Well, I suppose that a lot of those porn sites are a different matter. But probably only because I am not attracted in the least to the women in porn.
As for '80's electro music, eh. Personally, I don't pay attention to many of those posts. Some, I do. But it's not my thing. The 1980's were not a good period for music, to my ears. I love lots of music, from 1790 to 1970. But I'm not too fond of a lot of the music from the 1980's to 1996, I guess. It doesn't bother me that you post them, nor do I think that you post "too many" of them. But I usually don't watch the entire video, unless it's a song that I like within the first minute or so.
I do care about your views about television shows. You're fascinating, and it may just be my minor obsession with learning about the opinions of others, but I love reading about anything you write. And since I've been known to watch a sitcom or two, it's especially interesting to hear about them from the view of someone else.

I guess that's the last question provided, so I'll stop writing.

1. You posted a comment on the blog of a mutual friend. Um...Bill Sherman? Johnny Bacardi?

2. You'd be surprised how often I ask myself the same question.

3. Don't you start in on me too. I get enough of that from the voices in my head.

4. Most people would say I never did.

5. Nah, I'm good.

6. I'm trying to cut down.

7. Hadn't noticed, but that may be because of my own cynicism on the same topic.

8. Couldn't say. I'm still holding grudges from 1969.

9. It never bothered me...but then, I also read Becca's blog...

10. I might not give a damn about a particular sitcom or book...but seeing how you arrive at your opinion and express your view of same is the interesting part.

11. No one could object to "Nineteen" but seeing Dan Hartman or Hall and Oates brings back painful memories of that decade.

You found my Spiderman 3 review, and invited me to read your own review.

I'm trying to survive. Not well.

I grew up in South London, and I'm still there.

No kids or pets.

Kinda, but I agree with your cynicism. Opium for the masses and all that.

I dunno. Sometimes I hold them for too long I think.

Nah, if it makes you happy, then carry on.

Yeah, it's interesting to know your thoughts on stuff. Especially new tv shows which might not appear on UK telly for ages.

Nah, if it makes you happy, then carry on. And the 80s was a great decade for music.

And you're a great writer, though you still haven't replied to my email about your story.

Yeah, I'm sorry about that. I appreciated your kind words but found myself still oddly depressed.
