Katharine McPhee: The favorite woman singer of the cowardly, illiterate, tasteless and stupid.

Just give me a minute here folks, just a little ritual I have to perform. Like shrugging off a fly. Normal service to this blog will be resumed as soon as possible.

Katharine McPhee's fan has piped up one more time to defend her honor. Once again, he/she has done so anonymously, posting a comment to one of my blog entries as follows:

I had never heard of your Christy before. I searched her out on youtube. Can't say I was impressed in any way. Nothing special there.

The blog entry to which he/she posted this comment...was the one about the spiders in the kid's ear. In other words, one with no connection to Katharine McPhee or my Miss MacColl.

So. From this, we may conclude:

  • Katharine McPhee fans are cowards, afraid to face anyone under their own name (or any name)
  • Katharine McPhee fans are illiterate. It's Kirsty, not Christy.
  • Katherine McPhee fans are tasteless and like tasteless things. You don't have to be a Kirsty groupie like me, who thinks she was a foxy, supremely talented goddess. But to say there was nothing special there means not only don't you know what good music is, you don't even know what special means.
  • Katherine McPhee fans are stupid. I repeat, the little punk/ette couldn't even post his/her comment to the right entry.

He/she finishes by bidding me a cool
Goodbye.
Don't let the door hit you on your way out, now.

Take a chill pill dude....

I'm gonna have to side with the Kat fans on this one.

You want to side with the cowardly, illiterate, tasteless and stupid, that is of course your right in this free country.

But you do not come to my blog and talk bad about Kirsty MacColl. Ever.

I think you've got a troll, my fair friend. Want me to slap it around a bit for you?

Rise above such nonsense. It's what Kirsty would have wanted.

Ben Varkentine said...

You may be right. And a lot of things I do try to rise above.

Someone could say Cole Porter's songs were shit. Or Amber Benson wasn't beautiful as Tara. Or Erasure were tuneless Eurofags. Or Gilmore Girls is just as good as ever.

I think I could rise above anyone saying things like that, absurd thoughts though they are.

But Kirsty's where I have to say...

"Punks jump up to get beat down!"

If you keep mentioning Katharine, it is going to keep getting picked up by google and drag me back here again.
I couldn't be bothered signing in, that is why I am anonymous.

I have never heard of your christy/kirsty person so I don't know or care how it is spelled.

I am 48 years old. I know and care less about pop music than you do. I stopped listening about when the Beatles broke up.

I only pay attention to Katharine McPhee because she is an extraordinary talent that my jazz and classical training has led me to appreciate.

Yes she made a crappy pop album. Not her fault. Has nothing to do with her abilities or where her heart is or what she will do in the future when she has more control.

I was just trying to be nice to you and show you a different side of her but you are too close minded to even listen.

I did not talk badly about Kirsty. I at least took the trouble to listen to her and that was my honest impression - not much. Now you are behaving like a child.

So - keep talking about Katharine and I will have to keep coming back here to straighten you out.

Funny how an act of kindness on my part has led you to such bitterness and nastiness.

The internet allows you to be as nasty as you want, if you let it. Perhaps when you grow up a bit you will keep that in check and be respectful of people.

If you don't want people to respond to your comments on your blog, then don't keep one.

Goodnight.

oh - I just replied where my google link took me, I'm not familiar with this set up, does not mean I am stupid. I own my own software company. I play classical cello and jazz trumpet. I speak 4 languages. Shrug. I guess you will be finding my typos next?

Wait a minute. Wasn't it you who was pontificating about the importance of not ignoring the music of the moment?

And now you tell me you stopped listening to pop music when the *Beatles* broke up?

I stand corrected: Katharine McPhee: The favorite woman singer of the cowardly, illiterate, tasteless, stupid...and hypocritical.

I treat people respectfully when they earn it. One of the ways you earn my respect is to put your name to what you say.

Another is to take the trouble to get someone else's name right when you talk about them.

You earn my disrespect when you type a bunch of garbage while hiding behind being anonymous.

This also means you can say what you want about your many accomplishments, but I have no reason not to think you're lying.

And not being able to figure out that you're responding to a completely irrelevant post may not mean you're stupid, but it sure doesn't make you very sensibile.

Thumper, delete 'em all and ignore any more that come through. You cannot win with people who have an idol to worship. :)

You sure do make a big deal about choosing the anonymous tag rather than making up a name! Now that is really idiotic. Okay, this time I'll make up a name. Happy?

Now let's get this straight. You wrote a blog critical of Kathariune McPhee. I responded to you in a polite and friendly manner and sent you 2 links to her more acoustic and jazzy performaces on youtube.

Your response to that was to further insult her without as far as I can tell even having viewed the links.

To which I replied again politely but mis-spelled Kirsty's name and informed you that I had taken the trouble to listen to her on youtube and I wasn't very impressed. I invite anyone else to do the same thing.

From that point on you have been all snitty and insulting. My sins to seem to be mis-spelling your girls name and not liking her. Other than that I have been polite and calm and sane and not at all insulting to you.

Not only do you continue to insult Katharine MCPhee and me but now you are insulting all Katharine McPhee fans too.

You are behaving like an idiot, like a spoiled 4 year old. It says in your bio that you are 35? Good grief man, grow up.

Once again, if you don't welcome thoghtful disagreement and discussion on your blog then why have one?

Now don't make me come back here again!

Goodbye!

Oh, excuse me. You even find that insulting for some reason.

Sayonara!
Arrive Derci!
Manyana!

You can bash Katharine all you want (Just stand in line behind the Soul Patrollers, Daughtribers and Yaminions hurling insults at her). But you have a lot of nerve attacking her fans. I'm not about to badmouth Kirsty MacColl since I never heard of her. Was she a contestant on American Idol? I may be cowardly since I have no desire to give my real name on your blog, but I have an IQ of 156, had a 3.9 GPA in high school, a 3.65 GPA in college and hold a post-graduate degree. My "taste" may not be trendy, but I'm not tasteless.

Hey Ben, its A'mee here. While agree that this person is hiding behind anonymity and could be lying about everything they claim, I do have to concede them one point. Because McPhee was incredibly stupid, and accepted the first contract thrown her way (ie from 19 Entertainment-- and by receiving 2nd Place she was not obligated to do that as the first place winner is) she is, in essense owned by them. It is no secret how abusive the American Idol contracts are. So whichever way on the fence one falls, like the voice or "meh", we all gotta agree McPhee is a twit for not holding out for something better.

Just a thought - it is never a good idea to use your real name online. Anyone can find your address from your name. There are all kinds of nutty people online who get all worked up and hateful over nothing... Oh wait a minute, that would be you.

Almost the first rule of the internet is "Don't use your real name".

Especially if you are insulting a broad group of people like "all Katharine fans". There is one in St. Loius who might do more than just leap to her defence with words online...

So accusing someone of cowardice or "hiding behind anonymity" for not using their real name on the internet is just plain desperate.

Got it? Be careful out there kiddies.

Savoire vivre and netiquette aren't exactly your fortés, are they Benny Boy.

BTW, the hags over at MJ's all want to to have your babies! :D

Wow - you have some sort of problem. Seriously. Maybe a mental thing?

You really are acting like a three year old. Perhaps one of the dumbest thing about your little tirades is the fact that you're characterizing all Katharine McPhee fans by one person's comments. The fact that you somehow got "cowardly, illiterate, tasteless, and stupid" from some guys seemingly reasonable comment is another issue completely. Have you ever heard of a representative sample? Talk to a few Katharine fans before you make some bogus statement like that. It's akin to saying that all bloggers are close-minded, crazy, childish assholes :)

Hey Ben, I don't see how you can generalize all Kat fans by your demented opinion of one of them.

Writing a blog trashing Katharine and her fanbase is about as cowardly and ignorant as you can get, but from looking at your pic you sure fit the bill.

I'm sensing repressed sexual frustration and jealousy, did you know Kat fans are good at diagnosing the moronic? Well I sure am.

Go listen to Love Story and find a Christy doll to occupy your time. K, I'm off to listen to Kat's album..

Have a good one loser..Bye

Anonymous said...

Oh, kind sir. With this post you haven't made yourself illiterate or cowardly like apparently "all" of them are, but you have certainly made yourself out to be stupid. Shame. Generalizations are not a friend of anybody, especially you.

Anonymous said...

It's KathArine McPhee with an "A".. u changed the spelling of her name back and forth.. yeah and we are the "illiterate" ones.

Anonymous said...

Loserrrrrrr. Kat McPhee owns. You're just a helpless jerk with a blog. :D

Ben Varkentine said...

Okay. I expect this is going to be my last comment on this. Do all you special children know that every time you click "post," you're proving my point for me? Feel free to continue to do so.

But really, if it were me, I'd realize that this wouldn't make my idol look very good, either.

But as I say-you just keep right on keeping on...

Anonymous said...

Call me anonymous2, as I am not one of the previous posters.

I am not very familiar with current pop music, but I've never even heard of McPhee. At least I've heard of Kirsty.

Anonymous---are you from Tennessee?

tasteless? I'm not sure how I taste, never having eaten myself.

I do like Katharine McPhee though. Not only is she beautiful but she can sing too. Try this one out: Someone to watch over me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rka6TYQZRvg Then let me know if you still think she can't sing.

Anonymous said...

Wow Ben, you really hit a nerve!! Wouldn't it be nice to get such a heated response over something that MATTERS???? (like, oh I don't know, WAR or something????)

A'mee

I think you claiming that continuing for any Kat fans to post here is proving ANYTHING you've said is just another point that you went overboard and had zero justification for all you just said.

Oh, and...

Oh Ben -

It's a clever strategy to claim that any disagreeing voices are simply "proving your point" but if you really believe that, you're only fooling yourself. What they are really demonstrating is the absurdity of your initial comment. Sure there are some silly posts, but most of them are valid criticisms. I hope that *was* your last comment on the issue - claiming that it would be is, again, a clever way of trying to get everything to calm down - but we all know you're still reading these comments and if you really stopped and thought about it for a moment you'd realize just how foolish your statement was.

Or have you already...? Pride is a dangerous thing, you silly, bitter man.

I guess you won't be making stupid comments about singers that you know nothing about or their fans again will you???

I can't believe this discussion actually happened. Why was that first annoy psychotically compelled to police your site for anti-Katharine content? That's so weird.
I
hadn't heard of Kirsty before, but thanks to my googling for weirdo McPhee fans, I found this discussion, became curious about Kirsty and my life has become musically richer.

There is a difference between a pretty girl singing someone else's pop songs and an artist who created her own art to perform with distinct style.

Glad to hear it. There couldn't be a better outcome to this bizarre exchange.
